Washington's Coastal Conservation Strategy

Creating a resilient future for coastal birds and communities

Audubon’s Puget Sound Program protects food and habitat for birds through policy, advocacy, applied research, and community engagement at priority places. As a trusted partner and proven leader, we are well positioned to articulate the broader needs of the bird conservation community, and lead our chapters and partners in ambitious goals for our collective impact. Audubon convenes individuals from across organizations and sectors to facilitate and enhance strategic conservation actions for bird populations and their habitats within Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea, and advocate for policies and programs that benefit ecosystem health and resilience.

  • With support from the Puget Sound Partnership and the Stillaguamish Tribe, we are leading an effort to build a strong science foundation for avian conservation and management, transforming the region’s ability to deliver actionable data on birds to land managers and decision-makers.
  • We are bringing our powerful advocacy platform to bear in activating our 49,000 members statewide to speak out in support of policies and funding that support food, habitatand climate resilience for seabirds and shorebirds.
  • We are collaborating with 13 local Audubon chapters to amplify local, on-the-ground efforts to advance coastal resilience and restoration projects that benefit birds and people by focusing on frontline communities. This unified approach leverages the unique strengths of the Audubon network and will ensure that Puget Sound continues to serve as vital resting and breeding grounds for birds in the Pacific Flyway
