Passenger pigeon. Carolina parakeet. Northern curlew. Heath hen. In ‘Passings,’  poet and essayist Holly J. Hughes gives voice to these and other bird species who have vanished. As award-winning nature writer Tim McNulty writes, “Holly Hughes's elegiac meditations on birds that have vanished from earth give us a glimpse of the avian beauty that once filled our skies, and they echo with a sobering reminder of what we still stand to lose.  Hughes gives eloquent voice to the voiceless in these poems, and strikes a heartfelt call to awareness.”

Join us Saturday, June 28th at 2 pm when Holly J. Hughes will join artist Natalie Niblack, whose exhibit ‘66 Birds, 3 Degrees’ is currently on display, to read poems from Passings. Together, they'll engage in a dialogue on how art and writing can inspire us to take action to protect the bird species that remain, and also invite questions from the audience.
