Audubon's authentic, bi-partisan voice means that we can work across the aisle and build durable policies that benefit birds and people. Your voice is needed in Olympia!

With a broad coalition of groups in the 2018 legislative session, we are calling on our elected officials to support a 100% Clean Energy Standard. Passage of this policy would set the state on a path toward 100% clean energy by 2050, including the phasing out of coal from Washington’s utility rates by 2030. It would also make Washington a true climate leader as the first state in the country to ban new gas for electricity generation. The policy would achieve an approximately 70 percent reduction in electricity-sector carbon emissions by 2035, and full decarbonization of Washington’s electricity sector, the second largest source of state emissions, by the 2040s.

Our vision to create a 100% carbon-free Washington will require additional policy solutions that can work in concert with a 100% clean energy policy including a price on carbon pollution that will encourage investment in alternative energies like solar and wind, grow middle class jobs, and improve public health. A low carbon fuel standard that creates more home-grown jobs, and boosts small business growth will also be needed to successfully transition us away from polluting fossil fuels.

ISSUE PAPER covering 100% clean energy, carbon pricing, and the low carbon fuel standard

What to expect at Lobby Day:

  • Training - Learn from experts about the benefits of a 100% clean energy standard and how to make a compelling case to your state representatives.
  • Meetings with Elected Officials - Meet face-to-face with your representatives in the legislature and share your support for climate action and why it’s important to you. We will set up all meetings – you just need to come!
  • Fellowship - Meet people who share your concerns and are committed to building a sustainable world – one where birds and people thrive. Network and make new friends.

Lunch will be provided.
