Common Yellowthroat
East of the mountains, you’ll see these summer migrants mostly in cattail marshes. On the Westside they venture further into wet lowland shrub thickets. To appeal to potential mates, the black-masked males sing as they perform aerial displays rising 100 feet into the air or perch on tall stalks flicking their wings and tails. Find Common Yellowthroats along the Great Washington State Birding Trail.
