School Programs

In early April we will begin offering high-quality, hands-on, educational programs for area schools. Please contact our Education Director at 206.652.2444 ext 102 or at lmorton@audubon.org for more information on our youth education programs.

Eco Explorations
To make it easier for you and your students to get outside and to provide students with an education that fosters an ethic of ecological and environmental stewardship in a fun, hands-on atmosphere, we have created the Eco Explorations field trip program. Eco Explorations brings students deep into Seward Park for field study, investigation, and hands-on exploration of Seward Park ecology. Eco Explorations’ fun and educational programs teach the large scale concepts of chemistry, food chains, systems, ecology, habitats, and ethnobotany by exploring the ecosystems at the park: the old-growth forest, the oak savannah, and Lake Washington. All of our lessons are designed and assessed to meet 5th through 12th grade Washington State Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) and Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs).

Eco Explorations is available for 5th to 12th grade classes on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We can accommodate groups as small as 10 and as large as 100! Newly renovated Seward Park Environmental & Audubon Center facilities include 2 large classrooms, computer stations, a library, animals, a learning lab, and much more! Programming space is limited, especially for large groups, and dates are filling up quickly so please register as early as possible.

Talking Tree
The Talking Tree program is a delightful introductory environmental presentation for young children. The presentation addresses how trees and people are dependent on each other and emphasizes why we must plant and help care for trees. A costumed Seward Park Audubon staff, naturalist, or volunteer will discuss trees, the importance of trees, and the comparison of trees to people. The Talking Tree is geared to students preschool-kindergarten in individual classes (not recommended for large assemblies) and is available Tuesdays and Thursdays year-round. Programming space is limited and dates are filling up quickly so please register as early as possible.
