Priorities for a Healthy Washington
News

Statement issued in January 2005 by a coalition of 17 conservation groups around Washington, representing tens of thousands of members.

Washington state's environmental community is building bipartisan support for the following common-sense priorities. The public overwhelmingly supports protections for people’s health and this place we call home, and our elected leaders are starting to respond. Working together, we can create a model for the nation and a true legacy for generations to come.

In addition to the four priorities – clean cars, green buildings, clean Puget Sound, toxics ban—we strongly oppose attempts to roll back existing protections and insist on sufficient funding in the state budget to keep our land, air, and water healthy.

The following groups are participants in the community process of selecting and working to pass the 2005 legislative priorities:

  • 1000 Friends of Washington (now FutureWise)
  • American Rivers
  • Audubon Washington
  • Center for Environmental Law & Policy
  • Climate Solutions
  • League of Women Voters of Washington
  • Northwest Energy Coalition
  • Northwest Ecosystem Alliance
  • People for Puget Sound
  • Sierra Club
  • Transportation Choices Coalition
  • Washington Conservation Voters
  • Washington Public Interest Research Group (WashPIRG)
  • Washington Environmental Council
  • Washington Citizens for Resource Conservation
  • Washington Toxics Coalition
  • Washington Environmental Alliance for Voter Education (WEAVE)
