Bird Counts & Records

Counting birds isn’t just for the experts!

Around the world, men, women, and children count birds in backyards, parks, forests, and fields.

Not only is it great fun, but when you record your bird sightings, you also become a citizen scientist. Your counting contributes valuable information to local, state, national, and worldwide databases that inform us about the health of our world.

Join the Audubon and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology team for “birding with a purpose” at BirdSource, with details for:

Audubon Washington’s Important Bird Areas program relies on citizen-scientists across the state.

Tweeters is the UW’s Burke Museum online record of sightings, primarily in western Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.

NW Inland Birders is geared toward birding east of the Cascades in Washington, Oregon, Idaho.

Audubon Washington’s Important Bird Areas program needs people who love exploring the outdoors and counting birds. Click here for details.
