In the Spotlight

Osprey

DDT nearly did in this species in a family classification all its own, but banning the pesticide in the early 1970s helped the Osprey’s comeback. They soar and hover above rivers, lakes, and estuaries, then plunge feet first into the water to catch live fish. Find Ospreys along the Great Washington State Birding Trail.
