Staff Nina
Carter, Executive Director
In January 2005, Nina took over as executive director
of Audubon Washington, the state field office of National
Audubon. She began with Audubon Washington in November 2001
as policy director, a role in which she worked directly with
Washington state's 26 affiliated Audubon societies to craft
public policy that protects our natural environment. Nina's
background includes more than 21years of experience in public
policy and environmental issues; she worked for the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Department of
Ecology, Office of Marine Safety, and Washington State Parks
and Recreation. She served as an Olympia city councilwoman,
and was an adjunct professor in Environmental Studies at the
Evergreen State College. In her career she has analyzed, drafted
and/or implemented state policies on oil spill prevention,
response and clean up, non-point source pollution, environmental
education, salmon recovery, air and water quality, solid waste,
and growth management. Nina has extensive experience working
with non-profit organizations, industry leaders, and state
government agencies, and she is an experienced manager of
staff and budgets. She received a BA in both economics and
labor studies, and a Master’s degree in public administration
from Evergreen State.
