Staff Don
McIvor, Science Coordinator
Don brings his educational and professional interest in wildlife
ecology to his position with Audubon Washington, where he
coordinates the Important Bird Areas Program, and is investigating
our state’s role in Pacific Flyway conservation, researching
the impact climate change has on our birds, and developing
a shrub-steppe conservation initiative in Eastern Washington.
He also works as a biologist with Washington’s Natural
Heritage Program. Prior to joining our team, Don was Audubon’s
Nevada Director of Bird Conservation. He has worked on sandhill
cranes, mountain lions, neotropical migrant birds, and policy
analysis of wildlife contraception as a management tool. Don
has published articles in popular and peer-reviewed outlets,
and is the author of two books, Birding Utah and Nevada’s
Important Bird Areas. Don is an avid woodturner and is
developing a small sustainable farm with his wife in Washington’s
Methow Valley.
