HABITAT:
USFS trail of lowland alder wetlands to higher-elevation cedar and fir forest.
BIRDING: Hone birding-by-ear skills as forest birds migrate north to summer habitat. Western Tanagers; Wilson’s, Yellow-rumped, MacGillivray’s, Orange-crowned, and Townsend’s Warblers; Varied, Swainson’s, and Hermit Thrushes; Black-headed Grosbeaks; Chestnut-backed Chickadees; and Blue Grouse may be present. Red Crossbills and Evening Grosbeaks can sometimes be abundant. White-winged Crossbills occur some years.

Scenic 2-mile section of Rails-to-Trails conversion of former route of Great Northern Railroad climbs gently over Stevens Pass.
ACCESS:
From Hwy 2 at milepost 55, turn north onto Old Cascade Hwy. Drive 2.2 miles. Turn left (north) onto USFS Road 6710. Drive 1.4 miles to Iron Goat Trail parking.
