HABITAT:
Park w/ marine/estuarine areas, coniferous forest, and rocky promontory.
BIRDING:
Watch for Common and Red-throated Loons, Marbled Murrelets, Double-crested and Pelagic Cormorants, Brant, Harlequin Ducks, Hooded Mergansers, Western and Red-necked Grebes; Buffleheads, and Bald Eagles. Violet-green and Barn Swallows, and White-crowned and Golden-crowned Sparrows are also often present.
VIEWING:
Beyond Ko-Kwal-alwoot totem pole, take 0.25-mile forest trail to see warblers. Check picnic areas for sparrows. From beaches and cliffs, scan open waters for loons, waterfowl, and seabirds.
ACCESS:
Going south on Hwy 20, take Oak Harbor/Port Townsend Ferry turn-off. At milepost 42.8, turn right (west) onto Rosario Rd. Drive 0.7 mile. Turn left (southwest) onto Cougar Gap Rd. Drive 0.1 mile. Turn left (south) onto Rosario Beach Rd. Drive 0.2 mile to parking lot.
