HABITAT:
Remnant of ancient forest, managed by USFS, w/ 700-year-old trees.
BIRDING:
Some of the smallest birds inhabit the largest trees, so look for Chestnut-backed Chickadees and Golden-crowned Kinglets in Douglas-firs. Scan salmonberry flowers for Rufous Hummingbirds. Listen for Great Horned Owls and woodpeckers.
VIEWING:
Walk 0.5-mile interpretive boardwalk loop. Also, visit Horseshoe Cove Campground, 0.6 mile north, for riparian birds like Willow Flycatchers. PSE Kulshan Campground, 0.6 mile south, has Bald Eagles, Common Loons, and six varieties of ducks in early spring; and Ospreys, Tree Swallows, and Vaux’s Swifts in summer.
ACCESS:
From Hwy 20 at milepost 82.3, turn north onto Baker Lake Rd. Drive 14.7 miles. Turn right into parking area.
