HABITAT:
128-acre state park w/ upper deciduous and coniferous forest, lower meadow and Skagit riverfront.
BIRDING:
Year-round species include Belted Kingfisher; Pileated, Hairy, and Downy Woodpecker; Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Varied Thrush, and Winter Wren. Forest dwellers in spring and summer include Red-eyed Vireos, Swainson’s Thrushes, Western Tanagers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Pacific-slope Flycatchers, and numerous warblers. Bald Eagles, Common Goldeneyes are abundant in winter.
VIEWING:
Short trail loops through forest and meadow and leads to river. Keep off gravel beds December-February to avoid disturbing eagles.
ACCESS:
From Hwy 20 at milepost 82.8, turn south onto Russell Rd. Drive 0.7 mile. Turn right (west) onto Cape Horn Rd. Drive 1.2 miles to park. Turn left (south) into park. Follow main park road toward river. Park at picnic area.
