HABITAT: 22 acres of giant cedars, beaver ponds, and Methow River. Privately owned but open to birders.
BIRDING: Spring and summer species include Swainson’s Thrush, MacGillivray’s and Townsend’s Warbler, Red-eyed and Warbling Vireo, Veery, Ruffed Grouse, and Red-naped Sapsucker. Pileated, Downy, and Hairy Woodpeckers; Mountain Chickadees, Northern Pygmy-Owls, Brown Creepers, and Pine Grosbeaks can be seen through fall
VIEWING: Make a loop of 0.3-mile Tractor Trail, which leads to Methow River, and 0.25-mile Beaver Trail, which follows a series of ponds. Early morning birders should be quiet, to avoid waking lodge guests. Public may use lodge restroom.
ACCESS: From Hwy 20 at milepost 179.5 in Mazama, turn east onto Lost River Rd. Drive 2.5 miles. Turn left (west) into Base Camp driveway and parking lot.
