HABITAT:
5-acre USFS wetlands, surrounded by alder, maple, and cottonwood trees, and Sun Mountain hillsides of ponderosa pine, fir, and open grassland.
BIRDING: This is one of Methow Valley’s premier birding sites w/ over 120 species. Watch for Blue-winged Teal, Northern Pintails, Barrow’s Goldeneyes, Redheads, and Tree Swallows. Look along water’s edge for Virginia Rails, Soras, and Spotted Sandpipers. Veeries, House Wrens, Orange-crowned Warblers, and Rufous Hummingbirds inhabit deciduous forest around pond. Look also for Pileated and Downy Woodpeckers, Red-naped Sapsuckers, Cassin’s Finches, Pine Siskins, and Ruffed Grouse. Owls, including the rare Flammulated Owl, frequent this spot.

ACCESS:
From Hwy 20 at milepost 196, turn west onto Twin Lakes Rd. Drive 1.8 miles. Turn left (southwest) onto Patterson Lake Rd. Drive 5 miles to Chickadee parking lot.
