WDFW 502-acre site along Columbia River w/ riparian, grassland, and agricultural habitats. |
| BIRDING: | More than 100 species are here annually. Abundant spring and summer species include American White Pelican, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Blue-winged and Cinnamon Teal, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Spotted Sandpiper, Say’s Phoebe, and Loggerhead Shrike. Summer brings Bank Swallows, Black Swifts, Western Wood-Pewees, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-breasted Chats, Yellow Warblers, Savannah Sparrows, Eastern and Western Kingbirds, and Bullock’s Orioles. Fox Sparrows migrate though in spring and fall. Common Snipes and Cedar Waxwings are present year-round. Winter brings American Tree and White-crowned Sparrows, Lesser and Greater Scaups, Redheads, Canvasbacks — and thousands of American Coots which attract Bald Eagles. |

Walk on sandy dirt road 0.25 mile to river, then along shoreline. Check trees for Wood Duck boxes and Osprey nesting platforms. |

From Hwy 97 at milepost 260.4, in town of Brewster, turn south onto Hwy 173/Bridge St. Drive 1.3 miles. Cross bridge. Turn left (east) onto South Hwy 173. Drive 2.6 miles. Turn left (east) onto Grange Rd. Drive 0.1 mile. Turn left (north) into Wells Wildlife Area parking. |
