HABITAT:
One-acre family-friendly municipal park on edge of 285-acre lake, with riparian edge.
BIRDING: Good beginner’s site has 35 recorded species of water birds. Watch also for Eastern and Western Kingbirds, Pine Siskins, Western Wood-Pewees, House and Cassin’s Finches, Great Blue Herons, Spotted Sandpipers, California Quail, Gray Catbirds, and Song Sparrows. Spring and fall offer the best birding.
VIEWING:
Walk short riparian trail to tiny sand beach w/ driftwood logs. In winter, ice-free patches of Lake teem w/ waterfowl.
ACCESS:
From Hwy 97A at milepost 234.2, in town of Chelan, turn west onto Hwy 150W/East Johnson Ave. Drive 6.4 miles. Turn right (north) onto Wapato Lake Rd. Drive 2.4 miles. Turn right (north) onto East Wapato Lake Rd. Drive 0.1 mile, park in lot.
